San Diego Courts and DMV

You may have seen/heard on TV shows, "You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you." When people are arrested for DUI, they have 2 options: 1) hire a private attorney or 2) apply for a Public Defender. If you opt for option 2, the court will make you fill out a financial declaration form and determine whether or not you are eligible for a court appointed attorney based upon your income. If the court determines that you make too much money, you will have to hire a private attorney to assist you in your case. This can be very stressful for a lot of people because of the costs surrounding the hiring of a lawyer. Don't let this get you down. There are plenty of options out there for people of all financial backgrounds. You don't have to hire the most expensive attorney in town to obtain successful representation. A lot of these guys charge more to cover all of their overhead costs (staff, fancy office, etc.). There are plenty of other quality DUI and criminal defense attorneys out there who are willing to charge lower rates to help folks out just like you. Most will offer a free consultation and give you a realistic payment plan to cover their fees. The mission of our DUI Clinic is just that: Offer quality and competent representation at a reduced price to ensure that no person is left behind. You deserve an excellent attorney regardless of how much money you make.
